Overview
In the summer of 1945 at the Akitsu Hot Spring in Okayama Prefecture, a young man named Kawamoto attempts suicide because he is depressed with the state of world affairs and his own worsening tuberculosis. He is rescued by Shinko, the daughter of the family that runs the resort. When Japan's defeat in the war is announced, Shinko breaks down and Kawamoto is moved by her emotions. He decides that life is worth living and they become good friends
