Overview
Young Wang Yi-sheng is crazy about Chinese chess and becomes very skillful at the game. When the Cultural Revolution breaks out, Wang is brought to a border region to work on a farm. He uses chess to fill all the long, boring hours and becomes even more adept at the game. During a tournament, Wang defeats eight players in a row and becomes the "chess king" of the region
