Experimental documentary video illustrates Kabul's yesterday, today and its unclear future. It retells in a fragmented narrative Sedika's journey back to Afghanistan after a 23 year absence. She recounts her struggle to reconcile the different levels of loss that many like her have experienced from the war. Her piece wrestles with the irreconcilable impulses of memory, home, representation, loss, and desire in the face of a 10 year occupation and civil war that has left Afghanistan and its people devasted. At the same time, the video uses the personal voice as an acoustic subversion. It uses the voice as a means to work against the grain of overdetermined images of "the colonized" and of "the refugee". It thus problematizes our assumptions about difference and what it means to witness through image and sound the conditions of "othered" people
