The protagonist of Colomo's semi-autographical film is Gustavo, a professional photographer from Madrid, who arrives in New York City hoping to attain fame and fortune as a photo-journalist for Life or Newsweek. Renting a cavernous loft in lower Manhattan, Gustavo, who speaks virtually no English, sets about making contacts with artists, photographers, and an agent who will help him achieve his dreams. His attempts to learn English, earn success and find romance in an often baffling environment result in an ironic comedy of errors
