Kiriko's brother is arrested on a charge of murder. She believes in his innocence and asks a famous attorney to defend him. He will not take her brother as a client because they are unable to afford his fee. A year later the brother dies in jail. Kiriko moves to Tokyo and becomes a bar hostess.
